PGY-1

First year schedule has 2 shifts: evening shift is 3pm-12mid, and night shift is 10pm-7am. An occasional day shift, 7am-4pm, may be scheduled. First years can only switch with other first years. First year back up is covered as outlined by the backup policy.

PGY-2

Second year schedule has 3 shifts: day shift is 7am-5pm, evening shift is 2pm-12midnight, and night shift is 10pm-8am.

PGY-3

Third year schedule has 3 shifts: day shift is 7am-5pm, evening shift is 2pm-12midnight, and night shift is 10pm-8am. During the 2nd half of the year, where there are extra 3rd year residents available, they will function as junior faculty on either the day or evening shifts.

Schedule changes

RRC guidelines require, on average, one day off in 7 averaged over a 4-week period.  Second year residents can switch shifts with other second years either in the department or on other rotations. They can also ask a third year to work shifts for them. Third years can only trade shifts with other third years. Exceptions must be approved by the residency director or designee.

One of the chief residents will review all requests in a timely manner and notify resident of approval. Residents should do not make any firm travel plans until approval has been received.

Back-up

Refer to the backup policy for further details.
