Responsibilities

At Regions Hospital, residents will receive follow up on patients in the following ways:

  1. Residents will receive a weekly list of patients they have admitted from the ED and can access discharge summaries on our computer system. The resident may also review the patient's medical record in the Health Information Management Department.
  2. At Critical Case Conference, follow-up on select critical patients for the week is reviewed.
  3. Residents may request follow-up on patients they have seen in the ED who have then been discharged for follow up in the clinic. All patient charts must be reviewed in the Health Information Management Department.
  4. Follow up on all M & M patients is presented at M & M Conferences
  5. Residents are expected to turn in a minimum of 5 follow-up encounters per ED month with at least one outpatient encounter. Please see the Policy on Guidelines for Promotion for total numbers for each year.
