Each resident is required by Minnesota State Law to have a Residency Permit while participating in an approved residency program. The permit must be in effect by July 1st of each year. The $20.00 registration fee is paid by the residency program.
It is a Program requirement that each resident fulfill all of the criteria, (specifically, successful completion of exams and paperwork, etc.) to obtain a permanent license in the State of Minnesota by completion of the first year of residency, (June 30th) for domestic graduates, and by completion of two years of residency for international graduates. The resident may elect to obtain a Minnesota medical license. If applied for, the $200 application fee is paid for by the resident. If the Minnesota license is granted, the resident must maintain current Minnesota licensure status until graduation as the Residency Permit is no longer in effect and cannot be reinstated.
