Physician Assistants

Eight full-time physician assistants (PA's) are employed in the Emergency Medicine Department. They are NCCPA certified and registered in the State of Minnesota (with prescriptive privileges) and are responsible for taking histories, performing physical exams, ordering appropriate tests, wound management and splint application. In our department (and by the laws of the State of Minnesota), PA's are not intended to operate independently. Therefore, this entire process is supervised by a senior staff. They function much as a resident in the evaluation of patients, with supervision by appropriate staff physicians.
