EMS Vehicle


  • EMS agencies
    Clinical Care
    : The fellow will supervise prehospital providers in the field while assisting with patient care. An emergency vehicle driving course will be required prior to operation of emergency vehicles. The purpose of the field component is to gain an appreciation of the unique circumstances and challenges associated with providing care in the street.  PGY-1 EM residents will accompany the fellow on scene calls during their EMS rotation. 

 

  • Education: Initial and ongoing education of both prehospital providers and EM residents will be a responsibility of the fellow. They will develop a journal club where peer reviewed articles will be discussed. This will include both prehospital and in-hospital providers. Continuing education for prehospital providers takes place during Critical Case Reviews (CCR's) and Critical Thinking Labs (CTL's). CCR's take place at the individual EMS stations and involves
    Inverhills Community College
    reviewing unique or complicated cases with the providers.  CTL's are scenario based educational activities that incorporate high fidelity adult and pediatric simulation with on-site case reviews and real time instruction. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach EMT classes at the basic and paramedic level. Finally, fellows will serve as the coordinator for Emergency Medicine residents who elect an associate medical directorship for their residency scholarly project.

 

  • Administration:  The goal of the administration curriculum is to develop an understanding of off line medical direction.  Meetings will include operations (St. Paul Fire as well as suburban and rural agencies), system wide EMS administration and Medical Resource Control Center (MRCC).  The administrative experience will ensure understanding of the system wide organization as well as interdepartmental challenges, budgetary issues, resource utilization and human resources management.

 

  • Research/Quality Improvement:  It is expected that the fellow develop a research or quality improvement project that is accepted for publication or presentation in a peer reviewed journal or national meeting. Regions EMS has a long history of origional research and peer reviewed publication. There are resources available to the fellow in developing funding sources, IRB applications and manuscript preparation/submission.
