Emergency
Medicine Department
The Regions Hospital Emergency Medicine Department is committed to developing research opportunities and accommodating individual research interests. As part of the residency program each resident is expected to complete a minimum of one academic project. One option for fulfilling this requirement is to participate in a research project. The project should be of quality and substance suitable for a national conference presentation. We encourage the residents to utilize members of the research section and other faculty as mentors.
The Emergency Medicine Research Director is Bradley Gordon, MD, MS. Dr. Gordon is a graduate of Creighton Medical School, the University of Minnesota Division of Health Informatics the National Library of Medicine (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/) Post-Doctoral Informatics Training Fellowship. He leads the research team with an emphasis on operations research. His research interests include operations management of the ED, effect of information systems on clinical care, discovery of novel uses of information systems’ data and health information exchange.
Along with Dr. Gordon, a full-time PhD research associate is available for statistical support, and a research assistant provides support in the design and implementation of department projects.
The Emergency Medicine Research Section is governed by and partially funded by HealthPartners Research Foundation (http://www.hprf.org). The work of the Foundation is considered public domain research. Presently, they have 300 active projects, supported by an eight million-dollar research budget and research staff of 90. The research agenda for the Foundation includes a broad spectrum of work from basic and animal research, clinical trials, applied clinical to health services research.
