Pediatric Emergency Medicine- First Year

Educational objectives:
1. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills to resuscitate infants and children with acute life threatening emergencies.
2. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills to treat infants and children with urgent or acute medical or surgical problems.
3. Develop facility with procedural skills used in caring for infants and children with emergent or urgent medical or surgical problems.
Description of clinical experiences:
This rotation consists of four weeks at Children’s Health Care - Minneapolis Emergency Department in the EM-1 year. The emphasis of the rotation will be clinical evaluation of infants and children with emergent and urgent problems.
Description of didactic experiences:
EM Residents are expected to attend weekly EM core conferences. Core conferences are located at the primary training site.
Evaluation process:
Residents receive a written summary evaluation that is completed after the resident has completed the rotation. This evaluation is available for the resident to review and is part of the formal review that residents receive every six months.
Feedback mechanisms:
Direct and informal feedback is given by the pediatric EM attending during the clinical time that they work with the resident.
