Responsibilities

The American Board of Emergency Medicine In-Training Examination is administered to all residents on the last Wednesday of February. Residents are required to take the exam each year and will be given the time away from their services for this purpose. Vacation time is allowed during this testing, but the resident must sit for the exam.

Residents are encouraged to use the results of the exam to recognize areas needing further study. The In-Training exam is excellent preparation for the American Board of Emergency Medicine Certification Examination taken by all graduates. Residents scoring below the 25th percentile for their year will be involved in an academic remediation plan to improve medical knowledge.

All residents are required to take the oral exams administered in late January. Second year residents are required to pass one station. Senior residents must pass all stations and are expected to be present on the day of testing.
