Medical Student Rotations
Our department offers three distinct Emergency Medicine rotations to students of U.S. Medical Schools. Students should apply through VSAS (http://services.aamc.org/20/vsas/) for all rotations.
Core Emergency Medicine
Please note: This course is only offered to University of Minnesota- Twin Cities Medical Students.
This rotation provides medical students with first-hand experience in dealing with emergency problems in our Level-1 Trauma Center. Students work with emergency medicine residents under supervision by board certified attending staff.
Advanced Emergency Medicine
This course study is designed for medical students interested in pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine. Activities and responsibilities are heightened as are our expectations of the advanced student. The student will work with a specific faculty member who will serve as a mentor. In addition to Emergency Department shifts, meetings, conferences, tests, and workshops, advanced students also get to opportunity to participate in an EMS ground ride. Apply now.
Clinical Toxicology in Emergency Medicine
This rotation offers students an opportunity to develop an understanding of the principles of Clinical Toxicology and related critical care. Students will be involved in the initial assessment of life-threatening toxicologic events. This study will include toxicology rounds, Emergency Department shifts, selected readings and presentations as well as pre-rotation and final examinations. Apply now.
Bedside Ultrasound for the Clinician
Students will learn basics of ultrasound and will perform clinical ultrasounds in the Emergency Departments of HCMC and Regions Hospital. The majority of the rotation will be spent in the emergency departments at Regions Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center. Bedside teaching will be facilitated by the course directors, Drs. Reardon and Zwank as well as ultrasound fellows, ultrasound technicians and emergency medicine residents. Apply now.
